A.DROZD
Music connects and transcends boundaries
"Light, Sound... and You can feel: maybe this reality is more real."
The band A.DROZD is known for its unique sound—an explosive mix of electro beats, rock energy, and symphonic and ethnic elements. It’s for those who love experiments, have drive, and are brave enough to venture into the unknown. A.DROZD takes you into an alternate reality where anything is possible.
This extraordinary band can truly be called international, as more than half of the members have diverse ethnic backgrounds and draw from a wide range of musical influences—from jazz, rock, classical, to techno. For example, they enlisted guitarist Emanuel Abanto, who has not only played in rock, pop, and metal bands but has also been involved in orchestral projects and a flamenco duo.
The lyrics, mostly written in Ukrainian by lead vocalist Anastasiia Bandurivska, reveal deep reflection and provocative honesty about oneself, desires, values, and goals.
"The project’s aim is to give listeners a sense of their inner strength, to encourage them to go beyond their limits; to inspire the ability to live exactly the life one chooses despite the circumstances; to empower them to be the architects of their lives in this vast and diverse world."
Through metaphors, self-irony, and philosophical musings, the songs explore the loss of an old identity and way of life at a breaking point in time—when the old, familiar world collapses, and the new has yet to emerge. These songs are as cinematic as an action-packed film about life itself.
Hailing from rebellious Ukraine, the singer and composer captivates with her warm and vibrant voice.
In 2022, she was forced to flee Ukraine and build a new life in a foreign land. Her rebirth began at the Pop Academy, where, despite language barriers, she found like-minded individuals in her art, proving once again that music transcends all boundaries.
Anastasiia previously studied classical piano in college and jazz vocals at the Music Academy in Donetsk. Before joining the Pop Academy, she taught pop vocals at the Glier Academy in Kyiv and ran her own private vocal school, ASTAR Production, in Kyiv.
Most people facing personal catastrophe due to the losses of war and/or emigration stop thinking long-term. Their focus shifts entirely to survival. Many freeze, become aggressive, or live one day at a time. Hope and despair, anger and euphoria—this tumultuous mix brews in the soul of a survivor, torn between the urge to destroy and the desire to save.
But this hardship gave Anastasiia an incredible strength, which she now seeks to share with others: "How to move from the position of 'I am a victim' to 'I am a creator.'"
"My lyrics tell the story of a turbulent time, where a hero who has fallen into the abyss doesn't break but instead finds wings in free fall, ultimately rising even higher."
«Одного разу ти прокинешся і зрозумієш: ось воно – інше життя, інший ти. Життя триває і ти триваєш, поки що ледве-ледь, але ти тримаєш у своїх руках кермо, вітрило чи щось там ще. І в цей момент і ти зрозумієш це головне. Тому що поки ти є, ти – Творець»
On February 24, 2024, marking the anniversary of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, A.DROZD released their first track, "Mother," from the album Life. Love. War. Four more releases from their new album Post Scriptum are planned this year, dedicated to the rebirth after personal Armageddon.
